SHOWCASE VICTORIA
FIRST NATIONS PROGRAM
Showcase Victoria 2023 opened with a Welcome to Country from Josh West of Bunurong Land Council. Attendees then had the privilege of experiencing works as part of our First Nations Program, curated by our First Nations Programming Advisor, Gunditjmara actor and theatre-maker Tom Molyneux.
The program featured performance excerpts from Camp Culture by Dale Woodbridge-Brown (Cluster Arts), and Three Magpies Perched in a Tree by Glenn Shea (La Mama Theatre & The Storyteller). We also heard pitches from The Bleeding Tree by Ian Michael and Critical StagesTouring, Arterial by Na Djinang Circus, Goodbye Aunty Flow by ILBIJERRI Theatre Company, and The Fire Garden by The Village Festival of New Performance.
Tom Molyneux then facilitated a panel discussion with Rachael Maza and Ian Michael on presenting First Nations led touring works, and how to create culturally appropriate, engaging and safe experiences for artists and your community.
We would like to thank everyone who participated in and supported the First Nations Program at Showcase Victoria. We are so thrilled that Showcase Victoria can provide a platform for First Nations artists and organisations to share their culture and stories with other industry professionals in the sector.
Showcase Victoria is proudly presented by The Victorian Association of Performing Arts Centres and Regional Arts Victoria with support from Creative Victoria and sponsored by Jands Pty Ltd and Theatre Safe Australia.
