Connection and creation between people and place explored through the prism of light
Synopsis
Connection and creation between people and place explored through the prism of light.
celebrates interconnections in design, movement and music and aligns with the 150th
takes inspiration from the designs of Walter and Marion
Griffin and the notion of ‘Bindu’ – the point of creation in Hindu mythology.
The projected imagery is an abstraction of one of Marion’s drawings of one of Walter’s Indian designs.
Liz Lea Dance Company has a 20 year history of creating stunning, ground breaking dance work that draws from the power and beauty of classical Indian dance. The Point team includes leading Australian exponents of Bharata Natyam, Kuchipudi and Kathak, all based in the ACT alongside leading contemporary dancers from the ACT, NSW, VIC and New Zealand.

LIGHTING PLAN AND NOTES FROM DESIGNER
We discussed the immense grandeur of buildings and a strong sense of space.I wanted the theatre space to reflect the same sense of vastness and height which was achieved by stripping the venue back to its bare bones. No legs or borders and all the lights and lighting upright truss hardware to be exposed as part of the architecture.
The intention was to have an option of lighting the space in such a way that everything was exposed in certain lighting states as well as at times tighten into very intimate areas. I designed The Point like a lighting installation. Every stroke of light had to have a purpose. I wanted the audience to feel like they were taken on a visual journey that changed dramatically with the dramaturg of the performance.
NB Box OFFICE FOX note: audience epilepsy trigger warning: some light sills into audience.
