RUNT – a play about the runts of the world: the lesser, the unwanted, the weak, those without clout, the insignificant.
Synopsis
RUNT is about the runts of the world: the lesser, the unwanted, the weak, those without clout, the insignificant. It’s about one small woman’s attempt to take power, to lead the oppressed, to rise up and fight, for equality, for decency and what’s right.
It’s a work which uses famed figures from the past. It uses images both of great potency and mundanity (the disposal of the runt of the litter in a sack).
RUNT is a work which is the next step in the extensive line up of works created by Dee and Cornelius, Dee and Wilks and Dee, Cornelius and Wilks.
It comes from a tradition of works which powerfully investigate gender and class. The works include SHIT, a play that has taken the country and the world by storm, a play written by Cornelius, directed by Susie Dee and performed with Nicci Wilks.
It examines a world which has no regard for those in need, a dangerous world that stops at nothing when faced with those they consider holding them back, a world which destroys ‘small’ communities, enacts genocides.
One small woman (Wilks) takes the world on but is corrupted by her power, loses sight of the fight and betrays those who support her.
