A powerful celebration of indigenous culture through storytelling, original songs, and dance.
Synopsis
RECKŌNING is a 1-hour show tackling the modern-day effects of racism and intergenerational trauma through an interweaving of indigenous cultural storytelling, original songs and dance.
Employing strong visuals projected on screen, emotionally charged song, deeply personal story telling and genuine emotions of anger, grief and importantly, joy, RECKŌNING leads its audience through a process of truth-telling and truth-accepting that garners empathy and understanding, whilst the music uplifts and immerses the audience.
Visually stunning, with original costuming, symbolic staging, inspiring lyrics in language and an utterly dance-worthy contemporary sound by Samuel Gaskin and The Merindas, you’ll be dancing in your seats as you learn from this show.
We offer two versions, one for schools/families (teachers resources will be available), focusing on a celebration of indigenous culture, and dealing with racism for a younger age-group, and a 12+ version (check video links) that supports truth-telling and empathy for the audience. This show is a recognition of past injustices, a journey through understanding, and a celebration of indigenous cultures survival, creativity and strength.
