Obang is a theatre for babies 6 to 16 months

Synopsis

Obang is a performative installation space designed for babies aged 6 to 16 months along with their care-givers, and is inspired by the traditional Korean concept of Obang. In this work, Obang refers to five primary colours and explores the spatial meaning of home.
You are invited to a Korean grandmother’s home for a meal. Together you will experience her daily life, including cooking, singing, washing and story-telling. Obang is a joyful and interactive experience featuring puppetry, story and free-play in an immersive environment.
Audience take off shoes and leave behind bags and larger items in entrance space. Audience is greeted by seated performers and are invited to sit in a circle in the entry space. Audience is then invited through curtain to main space, space is separated by curtains into five rooms, living room, kitchen, toilet, bathroom and bedroom. During the show each curtain reveals a new room and children are invited to interact with the space and the objects within. At the close of the show the audience are led back out to the entrance space where the performers end the show and invite adults to take photos and chat with performers if they wish.
