Audience & Marketing Notes
Young people aged 3-15 and their families are the main audience for our show. Specifically music lovers, musicians,
drummers, innovators, creators, dancers, circus folk, and avid young environmentalists will be interested in
JUNKLANDIA. Though something we convey in our show is that we are all rhythmic creatures & musicians by nature
and we need not have expensive equipment in order to jam, play, make music, connect and have fun. Given that
we are all inhabiting this planet which is facing huge issues around pollution, single use plastics, sustainability etc.
JUNKLANDIA carries a message that is relevant and engaging for everyone.
JUNKLANDIA is appealing to audiences because it effortlessly blends multiple genres & artforms into one exciting show whilst also conveying an important and topical message. Through the unique style of music played, namely
junk percussion and up-cycled instruments, the show invites the audience to open their mind to new possibilities
whilst they embark on a one of a kind musical journey that is filled with meaning. Supported by an entirely original
backing score, JUNKLANDIA then fuses dance & circus with the music being played to create an extremely engaging
visual experience.
The characters are very theatric & comedic, borrowing heavily from slapstick, which helps to lighten the intensity of
the message about pollution. Young audiences in particular are laughing along whilst also digesting the comment
on environmental issues. A narrator helps to propel the story forward though the characters speak in the scat
inspired language of rhythmic gibberish called ‘rhythmish’, allowing this show to be accessible to audiences of all
ages and nationalities.
Finally, the audience participation in rhythmic games throughout the show and the final ‘Junk Orchestra’ experience
allows the crowd to merge with the performers and to feel the message of the show – ‘We are all in this together
and if we work together we can make a powerful change whilst also having fun!’.
