Hello Red Planet

Producer: Bunk Puppets
Writer: Jeff Achtem
Directed By: Jeff Achtem

A humorous theatrical celebration of community’s shared history. Locals stories are collected and then performed back in a comedy puppet 'info-night'.

Synopsis

Hello Red Planet is a humorous theatrical celebration of community’s shared history. The family-focused production engages with the local residents to collect their perspectives and stories, and then integrates these into a public ‘info-night’ performance.

step 1) In the community, we record audio interviews with local residents that investigate the pride, problems and shared stories of the local community.

step 2) The recordings are edited, and re-purposed using puppetry, and animation techniques to be presented at the main public event. This is a (fake) “info-night”, where two hilariously out-of-touch futurist developers make their impassioned pitch on why and how the community will be relocated to new Mars colony.

step 3) The animated videos are given to the presenter for sharing digitally.

With Bunk Puppets’ trademark imaginative storytelling and a clever use of satire, Hello Red Planet is a celebration of the earthly bonds that connect people to their community.

Audience & Marketing Notes

We feel that the light-hearted nature of the performance (and the use of comedy and puppetry) will appeal to a general mainstream audience, who do not self-identify their tastes as alternative or risk-taking. Using labels, the show will appeal to family audiences, local historians and proud residents who are keen to celebrate the town\’s culture. Additionally, there will be optimistic futurists who ARE actually keen to move to Mars.
