Life’s a mess: Clean up on aisle 6.
Synopsis
Our work is driven by the philosophy that art should be shared and accessible for all. We are passionate about ongoing and inclusive engagement activities that share the exploration, joy and challenges of developing performance art. We facilitate these connections through our three main projects:
- Our circus show; BOOP (with our one-of-a-kind apparatus)
- Community lead and focussed workshops for at-risk youth
- Statera Sessions: Work in progress feedback sessions. 1 featured artist presents a new work: Statera Moderates, critiqued by peers.
About our show ‘BOOP’:
Your everyday supermarket transformed into a joyous world of balance, circus and Perspex.
A ragtag team of employees subvert the 9-5 with crashing shelves, trolley races, and terrifying stunts! But will these comedic characters ever find what they’re really looking for?
This daring and hilarious 50-minute family show immerses you in physical theatre, clown and inventive acrobatics on a never-seen-before apparatus.
High impact apparatus of scale such as aerial and tightwire are complex and expensive to tour. In Statera we have developed an apparatus, Perspex Balance, that can present these circus acts with a light production footprint.
Statera engaged at-risk youth through a collaborative creative development process. The result is a show that was specifically designed to engage young adults and teenagers.
“Imaginative, clever, funny and upbeat… you won’t have seen [this] before.” The Blurb

We work with presenters to provide a customised combination of these services to connect deeply with communities, beyond engagement with the show.

Technical Information
Lighting
Our main three states of note are a;
- Bland supermarket state
- Colourful, transient dream like state
- Evening, closing up shop, twilight state
The ability to use colours and/or focus lights to particular points of the stage is a bonus, but not necessary. We don’t require any moving lights. We do require safety checks under lights, which can happen during our tech run.
The tallest point of the show (for lighting purposes) is roughly 5.5meters.
The lights require operation by a technician.
Audio
We have a QLab file (or USB tracks) to be operated by a technician.
We may require mics for a live song performed centrestage, depending on the acoustics of the venue; one for vox and one for a ukulele.
AV
To date, no projections or other Audiovisual elements are required.
Staging
Stage Requirements
Statera will provide 5 x 5 puzzle mats to protect both the floor and the acrobats.
We require a stage to roof height of 5.5 metres.
5m in lighting
Rigging
To date, no rigging is required.
Storage
3mx3m
Crew Notes
We have a Stage Manager who comes on tour with us, they have a number of cues in show and also act as a tour manager on the road.
Transport Notes
1 small- medium van and a car. (all of which we own)
Audience & Marketing Notes
High-school aged young people and families: Kids/teens with an interest outside of school; their first job, a hobby or a sport they are passionate about.
Educators: we have a curriculum-connected workshop that links our performance to classroom learning.
Theatre Audiences: as a hybrid show, ‘BOOP’ introduces theatre audiences to circus as the skills are integrated seamlessly aiding the show’s narrative.
Young adults and future change-makers interrogating economic systems as they impact workers’ rights
Circus audiences are primed for innovation, and this show delivers, right down to the high skill level and unique technique displayed on our custom-made apparatus.
Selling Points
- Our custom-built never-seen-before apparatus allows for high calibre acrobatics to be performed in venues without circus rigging, meaning that communities who would not usually be able to see aerial skills and high-level acrobatics because of venue constraints can experience them. “thoroughly absorbed and entertained, constantly wondering what was coming next.” FIRST ON FILM & Entertainment
- Accessibility is at the core of our company philosophy and drives everything we do. This includes: engagement with people with disabilities, integration of accessibility features inbuilt into the show, collaboration with Auslan Interpreters/ audio describers and workshops with at-risk youth including those that come from low socioeconomic backgrounds and may not have the ability to attend performing art workshops without subsidy. https://www.stateracircus.com/insert-name
- Engagement with a teenage and young adult audience through our show and workshops (Statera is unique with its community engagement; Our workshop allows 14-18 old teenagers to learn techniques designed to facilitate creative problem solving and critical thinking and communication- ideal as a collaboration with a school or a youth circus troupe) “The workshops make me feel safe to take the risks of creativity… It's great… learning, exploring and laughing!" Gabriel (SYAI Participant)
