The latest music project Charlie Needs Braces comes from Naarm musician Charlie Woods. Charlie is a proud GuriNgai woman, a direct descendant of Bungaree and Matora. The lands running from the Central Coast of NSW along the mouth of the Hawkesbury river and into Northern Sydney.

In 2022 Charlie has been awarded ‘First Place’ from the ‘Upstart Awards’, in 2023 Charlie was awarded the ‘Archie Roach Award for Emerging Talent’ through Music Victoria. In 2023 drawing on her own personal experiences Charlie has developed an album that is influenced by her new braces called ‘Saltwater People’.

The live performance showcases Charlie on her Loop station combining Brass, Percussion, and Vocal harmonies with her little sister Miri. Weaving songs and language inspired by their mob the GuriNgai people the sisters create an uplifting and energetic atmosphere amongst the audience filled with dance routines, call and response, and the celebration of First Nations cultures.

We are a Family Friendly act suitable for All Ages and in 2024 Charlie Needs Braces is releasing new music and performing at festivals such as St Kilda Music Festival, Town Folk Festival, Womin Djeka Festival, Sydney Road Street Party, Port Fairy Folk Festival, Live on the Lawn, Night Mode, and Summer in the Glade over the next few months.
